The SMP storyThe development of SMP based products within Bostik goes back to 1986, when the R&D department of Simson, a Bostik brand, began developing products with a Silane Modified Polymer base. Silane Modified Polymers (SMP) had been used in Japan since the 1970s as sealants, but in Europe they were relatively unknown in the sealant and adhesive industries.Evolving the technology, Simson pioneered the elastic bonding technology with SMP based products, creating one of the first elastic adhesives called Quick Seal, which soon became a great success.By 1994, Simson’s SMP product range covered the diverse automotive, construction and marine markets, revolutionizing uses and applications for this technology.
